I am convinced that mothering is the hardest job in the world. It’s especially hard for those of us who are adult children of alcoholics and addicts. That’s because in order to cope, we developed survival techniques that often linger into adulthood. Perfectionism, an extraordinary need to control and an overwhelming sense of responsibility; these are great qualities for employee of the month. But for parenting, these traits drain the joy out of mothering (and out of our children too!)
My hope is that as we join hands here in this place, mother to mother—we will take solace in God’s love and guidance. Let us join hearts as kindred spirits as we loosen the chains of our pasts and find the freedom to mother in joy and confidence. Take your shoes off. Enjoy our fellowship. Chime in. Be encouraged.
